“A complete miracle”: they survived for many days without water outside
On the way home, 14- and 21-year-old Australians fell ill. They wandered in the wilderness for several days before being rescued.

For the Chief of Police of the Northern Territory of the Australian State, this is an absolute miracle. The two young men lived in the woods for several days without water. The two were seen separately on Friday and Saturday – they were tired and dehydrated, but otherwise performing better, according to Australian media reports.
Mahesh Patrick, 14, and Shawn Emmitza, 21, did not return to Hermansburg, a tribal community 120 kilometers southwest of Alice Springs, after a weekend trip. Like the Australian news portal they were reported missing ABC News Report
Last week on Monday, the two went missing. According to Northern Regional Police, they first drove three miles toward a mountain, but then realized they were driving in the wrong direction. They got stuck in their car in the middle of a remote area. They could not move forward or backward. The next morning they decided to leave with an empty bottle in search of water. Very risky job, it turned out.
Both Australians traveled in an area that could go up to 40 degrees during the day. On Tuesday they stayed in a tent on a hill. Police Chief Kirsten Engels thinks they last had water. For unknown reasons, the two have since gone their separate ways.
“Extraordinary Life Intuition”
According to Engels, Patrick covered 35 kilometers alone. After wandering around for a long time, at one point he saw a fence that followed twelve kilometers away. He went for two days and camped for two nights. “Like a miracle” he was found by residents of a village late Friday, when he went in search of him with relatives. “He was dehydrated and his legs were sore,” Engels said. The police commander was amazed at the performance: “What an amazing effort – at 14 years old. His resilience and intuition of life are unique. “
Large-scale operations by rescue workers continued, supported by helicopters. According to Engels, police are “not confident” that Emidza will be alive. However, Patrick can provide clues to help him find his friend.
“An Absolute Miracle”
Police also contacted experts from other states, who, according to Engels, said the situation was slowly “getting worse.” But then a search party found new tracks. It gave them new hope for a happy ending. In fact, Emitsha was spotted on Saturday night – “in relatively good health”.

“As far as these boys are concerned, I can’t believe they have so few physical scars,” Engels said. “It’s an absolute miracle.” He thanked the villagers who helped the police find it.
Game canceled
According to the Australian media, the two attended a sports event in Alberta. After learning that they were missing, the organizers canceled the last contest to help participants search.
“We were concerned about the number of people leaving on the muddy roads,” one of the organizers told ABC News.
Engels seizes the opportunity to warn foreign tourists. If the car breaks down, it makes sense to stay in the vehicle. There you can not only get protection from the elements, but also find it easier for search parties than individuals. In addition, passengers must carry four liters of water per day and in person and adequate facilities.
Patrick and Emmid have run out of food and water. Engels says: “You ‘re so lucky to be still alive – we know how hard it is to be there.”
Exit Gate: Alice Springs is the only major city near the Geographical Center of Australia and over a thousand kilometers from major cities nearby.
