European air traffic is currently completely blocked. As airlines, airports and other service providers cut large numbers of staff during the Corona, they are now completely overwhelmed by the number of people who want to travel. Consequences: Thousands of canceled flights, hourly waits at the airport and confusion by luggage at unprecedented rates.

Things are getting confusing at the moment, especially in Germany. At Dசsseldorf Airport, for example, it was practically immobile on the weekends. The reason: Summer vacation has begun in northern Rhine-Westphalia. Hundreds of tourists missed their flight because they had to wait in line to check-in. Although they were sometimes at the airport until five hours before departure.
Only two strollers in the grip
In the confusion, strange circumstances arose “Kölnische Rundschau” reports. One of the Condor planes left for the Greek island of Kos without luggage. Only two strollers entered the grip. The rest of the luggage stayed at the airport. Reasons: Staff shortage and defective conveyor system. A father says: “A captain cannot fly without luggage!” A family vacation without luggage on a Greek island can certainly not be called a relaxing holiday.
Condor is not an isolated case. Over the weekend 1,000 luggage remained unloaded. Additional staff were rushed in. Even firefighters had to help with the loading and unloading.

Trapped surfboards and walkers
The situation at Hamburg Airport was no better. There are also big problems with luggage in the north. Trapped suitcases, surfboards, baby carriages and even walking frames should already be more than the capacity of the camps – even before the start of the summer holidays! An additional warehouse is currently being set up.
Small comfort for travelers waiting for luggage for weeks. “T-Online” met a young Brazilian man who had been searching for his suitcase for two weeks. He arrives at the airport every day, battling through hundreds of remaining suitcases. He walks away again in frustration. (pbe)
