Tragedy in Britain
Boy wants to play dinosaur with helium balloon – and dies
A boy in Great Britain wanted to surprise his family in a dinosaur costume and died in the process. He had a helium balloon over his head. His mother now wants to draw attention to the deadly dangers of helium balloons.
It was fun and ended in death. Little Carlton Donaghey († 5) lost his life in Great Britain at the end of June. Her mother has now spoken out to save other parents from this ordeal.
The boy had a dinosaur balloon over his head and couldn’t pick it up. He fainted. A five-year-old boy dressed as a dinosaur went to the bathroom with a balloon. When he did not return, his mother Lisa Donaghey (43) took care of him.
Donaghey bought the balloon for his son at a Silby six days ago. “He loved dinosaurs. Dinosaur roar was probably one of his first words.” Chronicle Live. When she saw her son lying lifeless on the ground, she immediately responded: “I pulled the balloon from him and screamed. His eyes were wide open and he was pale.”
“Carlton tried to keep fighting”
She finally carried her son onto the patio, where Carlton’s older sister and a neighbor frantically tried to revive the five-year-old until an ambulance arrived. With success: the boy was alive on arrival at the hospital. But his health deteriorated. He came to the intensive care unit.
“Carlton tried to keep fighting.” But according to Lisa Donaghy, she already knew her little boy wouldn’t survive. Finally his little heart stopped beating. “I told him: close your eyes and relax. Don’t worry about mom.”
Carlton is believed to have died of helium poisoning. The post-mortem report is still pending. His mother is now warning about the dangers of helium balloons. “I want parents, grandparents, elders, students and anyone who comes into contact with helium to be careful when using and disposing of helium. It is toxic and can kill in seconds.” The fact that his son is not alive should be a warning to everyone else. And she insists: “It cost my son’s life. He liked to play with dinosaurs.” (Sid)
