The battle group includes Russians and Belarusians who have sided with Ukraine since Putin’s invasion. Since then, they have been fighting against their own countrymen.
“Putin Must Be Toppled”
In a video by the Anti-Putin Legion, the slain sergeant’s wife explains: “Together we must end the war and bring real freedom to Russia. Putin must be overthrown. Stop tolerating the tyrant.” He then invites other Russians to join the “Freedom for Russia” brigade.
According to her own reports, she traveled to Ukraine in May when her husband was killed for “disobedience”. She was given the name “First” in the regiment because she was the first woman to join the Russians fighting for Ukraine.
“If you hate Putin’s regime, join us”
“Freedom for Russia” features Russian soldiers captured by Ukrainians. They were treated well in captivity and told they were willing to switch sides when told the truth about the war. Such information cannot be verified.
