Sweating continues
Now comes the Spanish heat – 35 degrees and above!
Switzerland has already experienced several heat waves this year. Now comes something new. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be especially hot.
It’s nice outside now. Tropical nights are over. The current maximum temperature is 27 degrees. Almost 40 degrees during this month cannot be compared. But the mini-cooling doesn’t last long. A new heat wave is already on its way.
“It will be very warm in the middle of next week,” Roger Perrett from “Meteo News” tells Blick. Especially on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the heat wave will be in full force. “The 30-degree mark is easily cracked these days,” says the weatherman.
In some regions, such as Basel, Geneva, Valais and Ticino, there may be more. “Although it is still difficult to predict at the moment, there are models predicting temperatures of 35 degrees and slightly higher.”

There is a risk of forest fires
The heat is caused by hot air coming into Switzerland from the western Mediterranean region, especially from Spain. So-called jet streams play an important role here. These are very high speed winds blowing from west to east at an altitude of eight to 18 kilometers.
Meanwhile, there is no rain in sight. Bad news for forests and soil in this country. Due to the drought, there is a risk of forest fires almost everywhere in Switzerland.
For a Swiss national holiday, this means in many places: August 1 no fires, rockets and chocolate sticks are allowed. “Even if it rains from time to time, the small amount of precipitation is not enough to improve the situation,” Perrett says.
August 1st will be sunny
After all, the coming weekend will be relatively mild. “Temperatures will mostly remain below 30 degrees on Saturday and Sunday,” the meteorologist said. Apart from Tsino, the mark can simply be cracked. According to Perrett, Monday will be warmer.
On Swiss National Day, the weather will be sunny with temperatures above 30 degrees across Switzerland. After a warm week, the weekend will be cold again – below 30 degrees.
