It should be a comfortable evening. But in the end, Paul (39), from Great Britain, was treated in hospital.
“I wanted to take a puff of my e-cigarette, but nothing came. I found it strange. So I tried again and it blew up,” Britt, who wants to be known only as Paul, tells “The Northern Echo” newspaper.
After the shock, the 39-year-old realized what had happened. “There was a lot of blood everywhere and my mouth was so mangled I couldn’t tell if there was a hole in my brain.” For a moment he thought he might die.
He threatened to suffocate
Of course, the explosion not only destroyed his teeth, but also caused his tongue to swell. He threatened to suffocate. “My tongue was severely damaged. One side was very swollen and it was difficult to swallow.” That’s why Paul was taken from the first hospital where he was admitted to a specialist hospital.
In the explosion, Briton lost three teeth at once. They literally blew out of your mouth. The other four teeth were so badly damaged that they also had to be replaced. Paul now receives seven implants.
This is due to the Chinese battery
He smoked e-cigarettes for ten years. Now he wants to stop. Also: likes to warn others about dangers. “I’m not a ‘look at me, feel sorry for me’ kind of guy,” Britt said. However, in his case, he wanted to make clear how quickly things can go and how dangerous e-cigarettes can be.
He believes the explosion was caused by a battery from China. Paul had heard of such incidents, but never believed it would happen to him. Now he is toying with the idea of suing the battery manufacturer.
Parts hit the Americans in the head
This isn’t the first time e-cigarettes have exploded. In two cases, the incidents even ended in death. In 2019, American William B. * († 24) Died. Shortly after the electrician bought an e-cigarette, it exploded. His carotid artery was severed in the process. He died in hospital.
He didn’t expect this: This is another reason why smoking is dangerous(00:46)
A year ago, Talmadge E.* († 38) was also killed by e-cigarettes in the United States. The device exploded and shattered into pieces. Two bullets grazed the man’s head. (jmh)
