He is Britain’s most famous prisoner. Since 1974 he has been imprisoned countless times. We’re talking about Charles Branson (69). The British know prison like no other. He was transferred to other prisons more than 120 times in 43 years.
But now the daily prison life is enough for the long-term prisoner. In a voice note “Sky News» Available, Bronson makes it clear how sick he is of life behind bars.
“Why am I actually still in prison?” It is clearly heard in the record. “I am 70 years old. I have never murdered or raped anyone. “Everybody thinks I’m a serial killer,” Bronson said.
Hostages, attacks and disaster
But he’s by no means the innocent lamb Bronson claims to be on record. During his countless years in prison, Bronson has taken hostages in ten prison sieges, assaulted at least 20 prison officers and caused £500,000 in damage during protests on prison roofs.
Charles Bronson, whose original name was Michael Gordon Peterson, was born in 1952 in Bredfordshire, UK. He became involved with the law at a young age. After suspended sentences and convictions, Bronson received his first lengthy prison sentence in 1974 at the age of 22. He spent seven years in prison.
He was jailed again after 69 days of freedom
However, Bronson continued to assault other inmates, each time extending his sentence by several months. He was released back into the wild in 1987.
But he wasn’t out for long. After 69 days, he again went to prison for seven years, where he attracted attention for his strange activities. So he turned himself into a spear and rebelled naked in prison with it.
Bronson spent the next few years alternating between freedom and prison. In 1999 this back and forth finally ended. After another hostage situation and prison siege, when he destroyed the prison, he was sentenced to life in prison.
“The world will be shocked”
So now Bronson wants to go back to freedom. And indeed: his will is not so far-fetched. For the first time in a long time he was actually able to walk through the prison gates.
His parole board hearing is scheduled to take place soon. He continues to acquit those accused of murder. So Bronson’s lawyer is trying everything to put his client in a good light.
But to be on the safe side, Branson has apologized to the British government. His lawyer sent a letter directly to British Justice Minister Dominic Raab, 48. Whether Bronson will actually be released remains to be seen. He is convinced of his innocence: “Everything will come to light, my side of the story. The truth will shake the world.” (chit)
